Some tests may be done to better understand the patient’s health condition, including saliva, blood, urine, or other diagnostic tests. This evaluation often includes discussing the patient’s type 2 diabetes management or weight loss objectives, as well as any other underlying health conditions.
If Dr. Matzinger determines that semaglutide is an appropriate medication for you, it will be prescribed. Semaglutide is available in different formulations, such as weekly injections.
Before starting treatment, it’s important for patients to understand how our treatment plans work. Semaglutide mimics the GLP-1 hormone, a hormone that is naturally produced in the gut. We will typically start a patient on a low dose and slowly increase the dosage after 4 weeks based on the patient’s response to the medication. Semaglutide can be injected in the upper arm, thigh, or stomach area. The injection site will be rotated regularly.

Common side effects of treatment may include nausea, fatigue, dizziness, headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation.
